This soft cords, often called "Chinese knotting cord", are hugely popular for macramé and all other types of knotted jewelry like Shamballa-style bracelets. The cord is made of wear-resistant nylon.

Nylon threads offer better elasticity than silk, high breaking strength, good wear-resistance and they don't absorb moisture like organic threads would. After knotting, cut ends may be carefully melted near a candle.
